How it works
- Prosumer produces solar energy. He cannot consume full produced quantity.
- Via a blockchain-based network energy surplusses are automatically sold to connected consuming households. There is no intermediary energy trader involved.
- The result: local and sustainable energy production. Efficient energy usage.
Pilot Project
In Medellín we are setting up the first pilot project for a peer-to peer energy project in Colombia. We connect prosumers and consumers from different socio-economic backgrounds, striving to provide clean, local and cheap energy for everyone. We are an interdisciplinary team of researchers, private companies and the public energy supplier of the city of Medellín. We pursue an holistic aproach in order investigate the potentials for P2P energy markets in the most efficient and realistic way possible. Thanks to the variety of our backgrounds we can not only shed a light on the technical features, but also on implications for society, business and regulation.
The research group EnergEIA is currently being led by Santiago Ortega. The group is part of Universidad EIA, Medellín. With their work the researchers are investigating potentials for the implemenation of transactive energy technologies in Colombia.
The UCL Energy Institute delivers world-leading learning, research and policy support on the challenges of climate change and energy security. The institute is led by Neil Strachan and ranks amongst the world-leading institutes in the field of energy research.
NEU is a Colombian startup from Medellín, focusing on building the IT infrastructure for local peer-to-peer energy markets.
Erco is a Colombian startup from Medellín that develops innovative technological solutions for the development and construction of photovoltaic systems.
EPM is the utility provider of Medellín. The company owns the regional grid and several power plants throughout Antioqiua. It is on of the main drivers of innovation for the energy sector in the region.
